Timberboard Maple A/B - Joined staves: wat is dat?

Maple wood is a hardwood species that contains few knots. It is a very strong wood that can take a beating and, when treated properly, will last for years. Maple wood has a white to creamy colour that can turn yellow when exposed to daylight. If you are looking for a panel material with a calm appearance and as few knots as possible, maple is definitely recommended.

If you look closely at the panel material, you will see a slight mix of textures in the drawing. It can show both flame-like drawings and 'bird's eye' drawings. These soft drawings characterise Maple wood, making it a popular and sought-after panel material. When you sand the panel, the original wood colour will return, which is highly recommended before finishing the panel with a stain, lacquer or oil.

Due to a faster growth rate of Maple trees, the annual rings are wider so the drawing is generally more coarsely 'clouded'. These soft drawings characterise Maple wood, making it a sought-after panel material. 

Visibility quality of solid panels

The solid panels in our range are of high quality. This can be deduced from the visibility quality. The visible quality is indicated by letters, often a combination of two letters with a separator in between. This can be found in the product name or the product properties. The first letter stands for the top of the panel, the second for the bottom or back. A/B thus describes the top and bottom appearance of the panel. Continuous slats

This panel is constructed from Continuous slats. In this technique, several staves of solid wood are placed side by side and glued together. The slats run in the same direction and along the full length of the panel.

The staves are carefully selected to ensure a good match in colour and grain pattern. They are then glued together with strong wood glue to form a solid panel. Often, the  staves are also pressed together under high pressure to ensure the panel is solid and stable.

Timberboard shows a wood grain. The pattern of the wood grain always runs lengthwise. When sawing the board, we keep in mind that the length measurement is also the length direction of the wood grain. So pay close attention when entering the dimensions so that the grain of the wood all runs in the right direction!

Available thicknesses of solid maple Timberboard

Solid Timberboards can be ordered in various thicknesses. You can easily indicate your desired thickness during the ordering process. This way, you can be sure that the board material meets your requirements: both the size and thickness of the material. The following thicknesses are available: 40 mm.

Machining solid maple Timberboard

Working Maple wood is quite easy. It can be sawn or milled just fine, although it can splinter. This type of wood is similar to beech in terms of processing, but sometimes slightly harder. Make it easy on yourself and let us cut the wood to size so you don't have to worry about this!

Wood absorbs moisture faster than it releases it, because of this property there is a risk of deformation, wood works! Always treat maple with a lacquer or stain before use. Preferably a UV-resistant finish, so that the wood discolours minimally when exposed to daylight. We do not recommend finishing the material with an oil, as this can lead to a yellowish colour, which you would most likely prefer not to have.

Processing instructions

This panel is interior glued, which means that the furniture can only be used for indoor applications. Solid panels work in temperature differences and in humid conditions. It is important to always treat the solid panel properly right away with a lacquer, stain or oil to prevent warping.

Specific applications of solid maple Timberboard

Because of its soft even structure, hardness and especially its weight, this type of wood is very suitable for furniture that is used regularly and has to withstand rough handling. Think of desks and stairs. Maple wood is not durable and is only suitable for indoor applications.
