Make your own oak children's desk using the IKEA SMÅSTAD, by Rilana

Many handymen hack an Ikea piece of furniture that they already have. Rilana also did that with the Ikea Smastad. By ordering custom-sawn oak AB panels, she created a fantastic desk for children. The bumper, also cut to size from oak AB, makes it a beautiful whole. It is a very fun Ikea hack to do yourself. And relatively simple too.

By placing a custom-sawn oak top and oak bumper on the Ikea Smastad storage box, we have created a beautifully robust and sturdy desk.

How I made this project

Luckily there were already some fantastic examples on the website. This allowed us to get some ideas for the agency. We ordered an oak top with accompanying bumper. We sanded and varnished this so that it is better protected when the children work or play on it. We screwed the top to the box. Two legs of scaffolding tube of 46.5 cm long with four base plates provide the strength at the end.
