IKEA hack: TV furniture top plate and study side desk made of MDF, by Tim

We made a long top plate for our Ikea cabinet. This is now used as a TV cabinet and for our son to play on!

I also made a side desk for my office on which I can store all my equipment.

Work description: how did you realize your project

The desk was relatively simple. First seal the edges with the edge sealer, then sand well and prime twice. After each paint job, the shelf was lightly sanded and after 3 good layers of black, the shelf had a nice, even black color that matched my other desk.

We connected the top plate for the TV cabinet using: wooden dowels that I measured with a dowel template. With some wood glue, a lot of patience and caution, we got this in place on the TV cabinet. There we sealed the assembled panels, filled them with wood filler, sanded them very well so that you can no longer see the seams, primed and painted them.

Final size: What are the outside dimensions?

The TV cabinet is 3.90 x 0.42 meters, the side desk is 0.8 x 2.4 meters. Both have a thickness of 18mm.
