Description of Marloes

Marloes (Studio Yoisho) has given her office a makeover and made a desk from 30 mm thick blank MDF that hangs floating between two walls. The total length is more than 340.0 cm, so she ordered the desk in two parts and then put it together. She did the finishing herself by using concrete ciré. The result is a super sleek desk with lots of work space! More about the working method below.

How I made this project

Marloes chose a desk of 346.5 cm wide and 55.0 cm deep. She consciously opted for a slightly shallower desk because the space is not very large and she only has to work on it with a laptop. She opted for a 2mm bevel as a finish, so that there are no sharp edges on the wood. To place the desk, she first made a wooden frame that is firmly attached to the wall, so that the desktop can rest firmly on it. She then screwed the desktop to the frame and filled the holes with foam filler. As a finish, Marloes opted for a concrete ciré, which she also applied to the walls and ceiling. And what a beautiful result it has become! Read more about her approach on her own blog.
