In this DIY project, Nick shows how he used custom-sawn okoume in his renovation. By ordering the sawing work online, he was able to start this project immediately. Read more about his experience below.
Nick's description
In the run-up to our new kitchen, we closed the kitchen door and demolished the wall between the kitchen and the dining room. We attached the okoume plate where the door frame was. We applied plasterboard over it and plastered it over the plasterboard. Now the kitchen is one open space with tightly plastered walls and ceiling.
How I made this project
First we removed the kitchen wall and took out the kitchen door. We processed the frame in such a way that the custom-sawn okoume panel could be nailed exactly to the frame. We took the depth of the adjacent wall into account, so that the plasterwork could be applied straight and level. We have reinforced the end with an aluminum corner profile. The back of the okoume plate now borders the hall, so that a coat rack can be attached there in the future.
