FAQ

What does visual grading mean and what visual grading of wood and wooden sheets is available?

The quality of plywood and solid wood is indicated by letter combinations. There is a letter indication for the visible side and one for the back. This refers to the quality of the face veneer; the quality of the bonding, for example, is indicated differently. B/BB is an example of a common quality, which can be used for decorative applications. Here, the first letter (in this case B) means the quality of the visible side and the second letter (in this case BB) means the quality of the rear side.

Quality grading for plywood and solid wooden sheets

A A-quality veneers are sorted and free of errors.

Discolourations, wormholes and repairs are not permitted. There are no visible seams. A quality is the most beautiful and most expensive quality veneer and is often used for decorative applications.

B Minor impurities and repairs allowed.

B quality veneers can have minor impurities. Light discolourations and minor repairs are also permitted.

S Minor impurities, repairs and colour differences are allowed.

The S quality is between the B and BB quality. Discolouration is allowed here.

BB Repairs by means of stuffing are allowed.

With BB-quality veneers, patching is allowed. These are small cuts from the veneer that have been replaced by a flawless piece of veneer. So patching is a way of repairing defects. Small cracks in the veneer (especially at the edges) are also allowed.

C+ or CP Defects are filled and knots are allowed.

C+ or CP quality indicates that more defects in the veneer are permitted. These are often filled with a filler instead of patched. Tears are allowed, and small knots are also allowed. This visual grading is often used for coating with an HPL layer.

C- or CC Errors are allowed, defects will not be repaired.

C or CC quality veneers are no longer suitable for decorative applications due to the permitted defects. Structurally, this is still a good sheet, and it is therefore often used as a construction sheet or packaging material.

Quality grading of pine beams and battens

All pine beams and battens in our range are in visual grading class C. This means that the wood may be curved or bent by 1 cm per metre of length. There may also be cracks in the beams, these may not be more than 0.5 cm wide and may extend across a large part of the beam. Internal cracks are not allowed. It is also possible that there are knots in the wood. These can also be loose. This means that we cannot guarantee that all beams and battens are always completely straight and flawless. We always try to select the best ones!
